This is a follow-up to yesterday’s post.
This is another part of Anthony’s “science show.” Notice the “Magic Popcorn” popper on the desk. This video is from his school show webpage:
Too often, this is what passes for a school show assembly program. The entertainer has the students laughing and having a fun time, but no knowledge is acquired. The students leave no more prepared or excited about their studies than when they came in.
When viewing video of shows, look at the props. The magician might have a fancy backdrop, remote control music and fuzzy puppets, but does he have real tools or clown props?
You notice in the video above, Anthony’s equipment is magic store props. Presenters with real science shows have expensive gadgets like Tesla Coils, Van De Graaf Generators, and electric magnets.
Don’t hire a presenter because his backdrop looks nice. A lot of times I do not have the space to set up a backdrop. Look at the equipment, have the presenter provide a list of the curriculum objectives or core standards he addresses in the show.
Spend the money, hire a professional educator, not a birthday party clown and give your students and teachers a fun, entertaining learning experience.
I can refer presenters in your area if I am not available.
